The Souls Of Black Folk - 938 Words
The reading that I found most compelling to me was W.E.B DuBois excerpt titled ââ¬Å"The Souls of Black Folkâ⬠. I find this reading compelling because DuBois was a huge advocate on togetherness and that people were being treated equal. During time that this reading was created, there were many obstacles African Americans were facing in that era that was not so promising for a bright future. The struggles they faced were, racial biasness, lack of representation and lack of educational attainment. DuBois presented the idea of double consciousness and the veil, which has specified a structure for how African Americans indulge in society. Nonetheless, he explains the delinquent issues of the twentieth century and that the problem is the color-line which divided race. The theories of life after the veil of cultural biasness and development of double-consciousness, the act of constantly looking at particular individuals through the scrutiny of others, while creating a broader viewpoi nt on how to roughly speak about cultural biasness in society. Moreover, the everlasting ideas proposes a specific duty of the progression of the race culture, the obstacles to overcome, and the potential necessities for forthcoming growth as society reached the twentieth century. Analysis of Reflective Summary Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Analysis of Reflective Summary. Answer: Introduction A reflective summary is a brief written analysis of what an individual learnt and the activities hey undertook during a certain event. This assignment represents a reflective summary on an activity that our group undertook, which was on researching and making annotated bibliography under the topic managing under uncertainty. This reflective summary will summarize all the lessons the group learnt from the process, when, where and which activities were conducted during the process. This means that a reflective summary indicates a brief indication of what time, place an activity was performed. An annotated bibliography is a list of research conducted on a specific topic. It is used to indicate the kind or type of research source, authors, limitations, research findings and research methodologies used, conclusions, strengths and weaknesses involved in the research. Therefore, the reflective summary will show a summary of what the group members learnt from and experienced during the annot ated bibliography research. Discussion The act of decision making basically involves choosing an option from a list of suitable and/or similar alternatives hoping for the choice to be the best and most effective (Al-Tarawneh, 2012). There are theories that are used especially when analyzing and evaluating the decision making processes used by groups during their research (Dathwade, 2016 and Milkman et al, 2009)). The following are some of the theories that were used by the group when conducting the research on annotated bibliographies on the topic managing under uncertainty. Programmed and Non-Programmed Theory Programmed theory is mostly used in situations or scenarios that are repetitive in nature. In this theory, the decisions are made by use of traditional or reoccurring standard procedures or rather procedures that are structured in nature(Ahmed et al, 2014). This means that when a group uses this theory, the members must have experienced the same issue and situation previously and therefore they decide to use the same technique they used before, which may become a routine. In non-programmed theory, the decision makers often face new and completely different and complex scenarios whenever they want to make a decision. This theory originated from unstructured situations and ill-defined scenarios. The decision making process in this theory involves more intense and effective brainstorming process simply because the problems or situations at hand are usually unique and complex (Vuorinen, 2015. In most cases, the decision makers use their own skills, judgment, intuition and creativity to implement this process. During the research, this theory was certainly used by the group members to conduct the annotated bibliography. It was easy for the members to research on the topic and complete the whole research because they have certainly been faced by the same situation before. The members had done various researches before on management and decision making process which made it a routine for them, used the programmed decision making theory. The members also implemented the non-programmed theory by using their own skills and knowledge conduct the research on the annotated bibliography which was an activity they had never done before. Structured and Unstructured Theories Structured theory originates from a process whereby the decision makers have certain specific decisions with specific and limited results (Fujita et al, 2014). They are mostly used for solving structured problems which are said to be problems that are have a routine and repetitive in nature and with standard solutions (Salter et al, 2015). The structured decision making theory involves a process with a well-defined procedure or steps, a well-defined inputs system or resources and a well-defined output or results. Unstructured decision making theory is often used in situations that are completely unstructured or rather definite. This theory is used mostly in solving problems that can be solved with any kind and type of solution. The solutions involved in this theory are not definite, nor unique, instead they are sometimes completely different from what is expected but still serve the purpose (Van Knippenberg et al, 2015). This means that the decision makers that use this theory rarely repeat decisions or solutions but rather use different solutions and processes even for the same problems or scenarios. During the research on conducting annotated bibliography on managing under uncertainty, we also used this type of theories to complete the research. We used the unstructured theory to review different types and kinds of sources that were written on the topic, e.g. journals, books, research papers, academic articles to name a few. We used the sources to get any information on the topic hence completing the research. The structured theory helped us get the needed information on the format to use when writing an annotated bibliography. This is simply because formats are usually definite and unique. They are mostly used to solve certain specific problems and situations. Operational and Strategic Decisional Theories Operational theory basically relates mostly to making decisions that solve problems that occur on a daily basis. This theory is mostly used as routine (Dekkers, 2010). Therefore, they are mostly used when the decision makers are aiming at achieving just the short-term objectives. The operational theories are often said to be repetitive and routine like in nature (Menzel, 2013). This means that they are mostly based on predefined or pre-organized policies and procedures (Swami, 2013). In addition to that, the decisions in this theory are likely to affect only the section that is directly involved but later or in the long run, they affect the whole process or individual. Strategic decision making theory are used to solve problems that are non-occurring but important to an individual or group. This means that they can be used especially when effective and efficient knowledge, skill and judgment is needed (Papulova et al, 2016). Therefore, this theory is effective for problems that are unique and non-repetitive in nature. They mostly are used to achieve and individuals or groups objectives that are long term. During the research on annotated bibliography based on the topic managing under uncertainty, we implemented the operational theory when we were trying to follow the format of producing the best annotated bibliography. Also, when conducting the whole research itself, we followed the processes that are often used to research which includes reading, making small notes and including the information into the research itself. We utilized the strategic theory when we conducted the whole research which was part of a subject that was to determine the overall grade of the whole group and later each and every one of us. The assignment was to determine our level of reading, research and knowledge on the whole topic as well as the grade to be awarded in the long run. Conclusion It is important for researchers to be draft and brief summary of what they have learnt and done during their whole research process. A reflective summary helps a writer and researcher show this information. An annotated bibliography can be categorized as a type of an assignment mostly given to students that need to research on a specific topic. It helps them list the most important sections of their researches in brief. The group learnt a lot from the research that it conducted. The members were able to realize the various types of decision making theories they used during the research. They used these theories to make decisions on what information is to be included in the annotated bibliography. The theories include, Operational verses strategic theory, programmed verses non-programmed theory and structured verses unstructured theory. According to the research, the theories are somehow related and therefore were more effective and efficient in helping the group to complete and be su ccessful during the research. In other words, decision making theories are simply some of the most crucial aspects of a research process because they help the researcher to determine which information is to be included in the research and which is not to be included. In this kind of essay, students will be allowed to include their own quotes, but they will not be permitted to cite sources. In the previous essay to this piece, for example, if a student were to include a quote from Shakespeare, he would be permitted to do so in class, but he would not be permitted to cite the source of the quote. There are many different samples of exemplification essay samples that you will find online, so it should not be difficult to find one that will work well for you. Some of them may use more than one example, wh ile others only use one example. The sample essays should be well written and the topics should be unique. The examples should be able to show how the professor or the students' views have changed based on personal experience. They should also be able to show how the viewpoints have changed over time. A sample with this ability would include a quote from Charles Darwin, a quote from Socrates, and a quote from Margaret Thatcher. You can easily look for exemplification essay samples online, but be sure to look for ones that provide enough information for you to read the piece without being able to see it in print. Labor Market Research for Nurses in the State of California
Table of Contents Factors Influencing the Supply and Demand of Nurses How Nurses Pay is Determined and Structured Towards Increasing the Supply of Nurses Reference List The healthcare system in the U.S. is largely dependent on the number of health professionals available in public and private healthcare facilities across the country. Nurses are at the core of the healthcare system by virtue of their role in the doctor-patient relationship, and hence their availability is fundamental if the country is to uphold an effective, competent, and efficient healthcare system (Rickles, n.d.).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Labor Market Research for Nurses in the State of California specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, it has not been easy for many states to maintain the required number of nurses in their health facilities judging by the vastness of the healthcare sector and high level of specialization witnessed in the industry. This paper aims to use the article by Rickles et al (n.d.) titled ââ¬ËCalifornia Policy Options: Supplying Californiaââ¬â¢s needs for Nursesââ¬â¢ to evaluate the labor market for nurses in California state. Factors Influencing the Supply and Demand of Nurses The demand and supply of nurses is influenced by a multiplicity of factors judging by their relative importance to the healthcare system. Indeed, analysts are of the opinion that the U.S. is not anywhere near satisfying the demand for more nurses, and a time when the supply of nurses will effectively deal with the demand can never be imagined as of yet (Rickles, n.d.). Californiaââ¬â¢s shortage of qualified nurses is among the most relentless in the U.S. as many of the stateââ¬â¢s health institutions experience great difficulty in the process of recruiting and retaining qualified nursing personnel (Rickles et al, n.d.). By 2005, California had an estimated 200,000 registered nurses, with credible projections suggesting that the stateââ¬â¢s demand for registered nurses will stand at 300,000 by 2010 and 458,733 by 2030 (Rickles et al, n.d; Hausellberg, 2010). The above scenario can be attributed to a variety of factors that influence the dynamics of supply and demand of the nurses in the state. On the demand side, it can be safely argued that the demand for nurses in California has sharply risen in the past and will continue to steadily grow in the future due to the populationââ¬â¢s ever rising demand for healthcare (Rickles et al, n.d.). The trend is that individuals residing in California are increasingly utilizing hospital facilities, with around 4 million patients being released from hospitals in 2003, a 7% increase from the figures recorded in 1998.Advertising Looking for essay on labor law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The total population of California has also expanded by at least 8% between 1998 and 200 3, and is projected to continue expanding in the future. Still, Californiaââ¬â¢s elderly population is increasing by the day, impacting heavily on the demand of nurses since the elderly requires more medical attention than any other age-category. Other influences on the demand side include the reimbursement approaches employed by health insurance plans, federal regulations on nurse staffing ratios to meet the required nurse-to-patient ratios, aging of the Registered Nurse work force, natural attrition, and personal wealth (Rickles et al, n.d.). Influences that determine the supply of nurses into health facilities based in California seems so much constrained to meet the ever rising demand. The supply of nurses in California is mainly influenced by the duration of the nursing educational program, new graduates, input of retired nurses who may wish to return to active employment, external recruitment of nurses from other states, licensing requirements for new nurses, and sourcing o f nurses from other countries (Rickles et al, n.d.). Supply of nurses is also determined by the number of students nurturing an ambition or interest to train in nursing. Rickles et al (n.d.) posits that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦for the first part of the 20th century, licensed nursing was one of a few occupations widely open to womenâ⬠¦As career opportunities expanded for women in the second half of that century, however, nursing had to compete with other attractive professions for new entrantsâ⬠(p. 105). It is therefore prudent to argue that the enhanced labor market prospects for women have worked to diminish the supply of nurses. Lastly, the supply of nurses in California has been given a lifeline owing to the relaxation of some U.S. immigration regulations. How Nurses Pay is Determined and Structured The pay for nurses must be determined based on the local labor situation and the forces of supply and demand (Clanton, 2009). When a health facility faces a shortage of nurses as it i s the case in California, the net effect on the market equilibrium in competitive market situations would be an increase in nursesââ¬â¢ pay. Other factors that may influence the market equilibrium and hence determine the nurses pay include costs of living prevailing in the state, consumer price index (CPI), and fluctuations in the purchasing power of the American dollar (Rickles et al n.d.).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Labor Market Research for Nurses in the State of California specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Furthermore, federal regulations such as the nurse-to-patient ratios are likely to increase the nursesââ¬â¢ pay as states fight to attract more nurses to keep up with the set legislations. Lastly, the professional bodies representing the nurses may play a fundamental role in determining their pay. The pay structure for nurses in the state is determined by a number of factors, namely the level of education and experience, position in the labor force, duration of service, level of specialty, nationality, and station of duty (Rickles, n.d.). Towards Increasing the Supply of Nurses The concerned stakeholders need to offer more monetary and non-monetary incentives to attract more nurses and trigger more students to enroll in nursing schools.
